**** North National Update ****

Tables updated:

As the season draws to a close some titles have been decided and some are going down to the wire.

The un decided ones........

Wed 1st Division
Whilst the bottom place has been decided as Ashwood park find themselves too far behind, the 2nd relegation place is going right down to the wire.

Burbage B and Peak Dale are battling it out to stay in the first division with Peak Dale holding a slender advantage of 23 chalks.

Both clubs have 1 game remaining with Peak Dale away at Hadfield and Burbage home to Ashwood park.  Possible advantage to Burbage but in this game anything can happen.

All the other Wed and Vets promotion and relegation placings are pretty much decided now.

Wed 1st Div Averages
Having led for much of the season Armstrong has seen Adams sneak past at the death with some excellent results in the final stretch.  With a couple of games to go it is now advantage to Adams.

It is now for Adams to lose rather than Armstrong to win.

Wed 2nd Div Averages
There has been a battle royal all season between Norton and Barber to take this crown and it looks like going down to the last game and maybe the last bowl in the last match at home against Rams Head.

Vets 2nd Div averages
Again another battle going down to the last matches between Wilson and Fletcher. There really isnt much in this one only a few chalks seperating them.

North National Merit Result

The North National merit was played on a sunny afternoon (mostly!) at Manor Park BC in Glossop.  Due to a disappointing entry of 18 (of which 2 didnt turn up) the merit was played on one day.

There was still a high class field contesting the merit trophy as well as the chance to qualify for the Derbyshire merit which this year will be held in the North National area.

Steve Barber pulled off a very good win against county player Mark Whelan, while another county block Paul Hawker went down to Nigel Armstrong in the quarter finals.

Steve went down to Pete Conway in the quarters while Dave Ellis and Richard Armstrong both won their quarters.

The semis had Romiley team mates Pete Conway against Nigel Armstrong whilst Dave Ellis took on Richard Armstrong in the other.  Dave and Ric had a great game that went right down to the wire with some excellent bowling with Richard edging it to 18.

It would be fair to say however that the other game had a comeback to rival all comebacks with Pete seemingly home and dry at 17-5 when Nigel got the jack and went for the corners.  Despite Petes efforts Nigel managed to claw his way back and complete an incredible 21 - 20 win.

This meant that brothers Nigel and Richard were pitted against each other again in a repeat of the 2004 final.  This time however Richard didnt allow Nigel into the game and ran out a 21-9 winner.

Pete then beat Dave in the play off for the third Derbyshire merit qualifying place.

Thanks to Manor Park for putting on a great day and to the officials who were in attendance.

Jack Chapman (Nth Midlands) 21 Ben Harris (Birmingham) 18
Simon Hallas (Doncaster) 21 Daniel Sykes (Doncaster) 18

Final
Simon Hallas (Doncaster) 21 Jack Chapman (Nth Midlands) 16

A fabulous day with great weather, and green now in wonderful condition. A great occasion with 64 youth bowlers all enjoying themselves, and some of the parents more tense than the kids. A great performance all day by the winner, with his defeat of Wayne Ditchfied, whose performance itself was outstanding getting to the last 8 (giving 4 all round). Two things stick out in my mind NOT ONE REPRESENTATIVE FROM BCGBA in attendance, are we surprised ? Suppose they will say weren't invited. And I had 2 under 18 entries in waterloo this year, they were Wayne, who is in last 64, and todays winner.
Finally am opening this up to 256 entries next year so will be advertising shortly, if I fill it and I hope to expect total prizemoney to be toawrds £2000, with the winner getting £500 so come on make sure ALL the juniors know about it, and lets show BCGBA that this game is not DYING, despite their efforts.
